British outerwear, shaped by weather and time.

London, England · 1856

Thomas Burberry opened his first shop in Basingstoke in 1856 and later invented gabardine, a breathable, weatherproof cotton. The trench coat, the Burberry Check and the Equestrian Knight Design remain the house codes, with heritage trenches still made in Yorkshire.

Burberry is rooted in the English outdoors, from the trench coat to its honey and stone check. Its current campaigns place that heritage in rainy streets and flower stalls, warm and unhurried.
